Skills, types and evaluations

Positions 4, 5 and 6 of a code say what the touch was, how it was played and how well. These letters and symbols are the industry convention that DataVolley and VolleyStation use too.

Skills

LetterSkillNote
SServe
RReceptionthe pass of a serve
ESet
AAttackthe default for a number typed with no letter
BBlock
DDig
FFree ball

You often leave the skill out. Courtside picks it from the rally: see What Courtside fills in.

Types

LetterCourtside reads it as
Hhigh
Mmedium
Qquick
Ttense
Usuper
Nfast
Oother

On a serve the type is the kind of serve; your team's convention decides which letter means a float or a jump serve. A reception takes its serve's type, and a block or dig takes its attack's, unless you type one.

The default type for each skill is H. Change it in Settings → Typing.

Evaluations

SymbolCourtside reads it as
#perfect
+positive
!ok
-poor
/poor, ball over
=error

What each symbol means for each skill follows your team's scouting convention. Two pairs are fixed by how dot codes work (see Dot codes): an attack rated / pairs with the other team's block # (a blocked attack), and a serve rated # pairs with a reception = (an ace).

The default evaluation for each skill is +. Change it in Settings → Typing.

Which ratings end the rally

Courtside writes the point by itself when a touch's rating ends the rally. Out of the box:

SkillWins the pointLoses the point
Serve#=
Reception=
Set=
Attack#= /
Block#= /
Dig=
Free ball=

These are the season's winning symbols. You can change them in Settings → Tables. The read-back line says "wins the point" or "loses the point" on a code that ends the rally.

Unknown player

Type $$ in place of the shirt number when you don't know who touched the ball: a$$D is a dig by someone on the away team.
