Worked examples

Four rallies from the middle of a made-up set, each typed as one line, with what Courtside writes. The read-back line shows the same codes before you press Enter.

The match: Harbour City VC (home, setter #3) against Riverside Volley (away, setter #6). The score is 10:11 and Harbour City's #7 is serving. The season's settings are the defaults, and its combination table is the default one.

Rally 1: side-out with a quick

Riverside's #10 passes, their setter sets a quick (X1) to #12, who kills it.

a10 a12X1#
CodeWhy
*07SH-Courtside knows #7 is serving. Starting with the passer gives you the serve, rated from the pass.
a10RH+The pass, default rating +. A + pass means a - serve.
a06EQ+~~CThe setter's set, added because the attack follows the team's own pass. It takes the attack's type, and the target C (centre) from X1.
a12AQ#X1~3The attack: X1 stands in for the skill and gives type Q and start zone 3. # wins the point.
*$$&H=The green code: Harbour City lost without another touch.
ap10:12The point, written by Courtside.
az…Riverside rotates after the side-out.

Rally 2: a kill off the block

Riverside's #4 now serves. Harbour City's #9 passes perfectly, #3 sets, #2 hits a quick ball off Riverside's #8 on the block.

9# 3E 2AQ.a8=
CodeWhy
a04SH-The serve, from the rotation. A # pass means a - serve.
*09RH#The pass.
*03EH+The set, typed with E, so Courtside doesn't add one.
*02AQ#The attack. A dot code: the block's = makes the attack #.
a08BQ=The block error. It shares the attack's type. A rally ending on a block error gets no green code.
*p11:12The point.
*z…Harbour City rotates.

Rally 3: a long rally, DataVolley style

Harbour City's #11 serves a jump serve. Riverside's #5 passes poorly, #6 sets badly, #14 attacks from zone 4 and is covered by Harbour City's #4 on the block. Riverside's #2 digs, and #14 hits out.

11SQ+ a5- a6E- a14A-~~~4 4B+ a2D a14=
CodeWhy
*11SQ+The serve, typed in full.
a05RQ-Straight after the other team's serve: the reception, with the serve's type.
a06EH-The set, typed.
a14AH-~~~4The attack, start zone 4 in its column.
*04BH+The block, with the attack's type.
a02DH+The dig.
a06EH+The setter's set, added because the attack follows the team's own dig.
a14AH=The attack error.
*$$&H#The green code: Harbour City's point, won on Riverside's error.
*p12:12The point. Harbour City served and won, so no rotation.

Rally 4: an ace in three keystrokes

#11 serves again and Riverside's #5 can't pass it.

a5=
CodeWhy
*11SH#The serve, from the rotation. A reception error means an ace.
a05RH=The reception error. It answers the ace, so there's no green code.
*p13:12The point.

The same rally in both styles

An attack from zone 3 into zone 5, subzone B, a hard hit against one blocker, kill:
