The code log
The code log lists every code in the match, set by set and rally by rally. You use it to check what went in, and to fix it: modify a code, add codes before or after it, remove it, or put in a rally you missed.
Read the log
Set tabs. The tabs at the top (S1, S2… and GS for a golden set) pick the set shown. A finished set's tab shows its score. The log follows the set in progress unless you pick another.
Rallies. Each rally starts with a head line:
- a finished rally: "Rally 4", the score before and after it ("3:2 → 4:2") and the team that won it, in its colour;
- the rally in progress: "in progress", or "Riverside Volley to serve" before its first code.
Older finished rallies are folded so the log stays short; the last three stay open. Click a rally's head to fold or unfold it.
Codes. Each row shows:
- the code's number, counted across the whole match, so code 140 is the same code whichever set you look at;
- the code itself, such as
*08AH#; - an added tag if Courtside wrote it (a point, a green code, a rotation, a set end, the setter's set), or edited if you modified it;
- what it means, in words;
- a mark if Checks found something: a filled octagon for an error, a triangle for a warning, a circled "i" for a note. Hover over it to read the issue.
A row with ↳ 12 instead of a mark has an issue that follows from the fault at code 12. Fix that one first: click ↳ 12 to go there. See Checks.
Above the log: a flag with the number of faults ("2 faults · 5 follow") opens Checks. The magnifier opens search. Clips opens the clip list. The undo arrow and Redo are undo and redo.
Pick a code
Click a code to pick it. Click it again to let go.
- With a video open, the video jumps to the code's time. See Video times and sync.
- The court shows where the play went. See Marking where a play went.
- A toolbar appears under the log: Code 37, then Modify, + Before, + After, Done and Remove.
To step through touches from the keyboard, press Alt+Shift+[ (⌥⇧[) for the previous play and Alt+Shift+] (⌥⇧]) for the next. The log and the video follow.
You can also right-click a code for a menu with Modify, Add before, Add after and Remove.
Modify a code
- Pick the code and click Modify, or press Alt+E (⌥E).
- The code goes on the command line, and the bar above it says "Modifying code 37:
*08AH+· Esc cancels". - Change it. Short forms work here too.
- Press Enter.
The log stays where you are; it doesn't jump to the latest rally.
When the change matters for the rest of the rally, Courtside follows it:
- The point moves. Change a kill to an error and the point goes to the other team.
- The other half of a pair follows. Change a serve to an ace and its reception becomes an error. See Modifying a pair.
- Rotations follow. Courtside writes its own side-out rotations again from the rally you changed to the end of the set. Rotation codes you typed or modified yourself stay as they are.
- The set end follows. A set that's no longer won loses its set end.
To change a starting lineup, modify its lineup row: the lineup screen opens.
Add codes before or after a code
- Pick the code and click + Before (Alt+B, ⌥B) or + After (Alt+A, ⌥A).
- The bar says "Adding before code 37:
*08AH+" or "Adding after code 37: …". - Type one or more codes. The read-back reads them in their place in the rally, so short forms are filled in from the touch before.
- Press Enter.
Remove a code
Pick the code and click Remove, or press Alt+X (⌥X). It's removed at once. Undo brings it back.
Put in a missed rally
If you missed a whole rally, you can add it in its place, also in the middle of a set.
- Find the rally that came after the missed one.
- Click + Rally on its head line. The bar says "New rally before code 52: …" with that rally's first code.
- Type the missed rally's codes.
- If its last code doesn't decide it, click the winner's Point button. It adds the point to the line.
- Press Enter.
Courtside writes the rally's point and, if it was a side-out, the rotation. Then it moves every later point in the set on to its new score, and writes the set end again if the set is now won. A rally nobody won is refused.
Rotations after a missed side-out aren't carried into the rallies after it. If Checks then show rotation faults, use Fix rotations from here.
How to find a missed rally
A rally the serving team won leaves no trace in the rotation, so Checks can't always find it. With video times, Courtside also looks at the gaps between a point and the next serve. A gap much longer than usual shows between the rally heads as a note, for example "39 s of video since the last point, usually 17 s; a missed rally?", with a + Rally button right there.
Undo and redo
- Undo: the arrow above the log, or Ctrl+Z (⌘Z on a Mac).
- Redo: Redo above the log, or Ctrl+Shift+Z (⇧⌘Z).
Undo takes back your last action together with what Courtside wrote because of it: a kill and its point and rotation, a whole lineup, a modify and the pair's other half.
The command bar says what each change did. When a change ends a set or the match, it says so and adds "Undo if wrong".
Redo only lasts until you close Courtside.
On the command line with text typed, Ctrl+Z undoes your typing instead.
Search the codes
Search finds codes by their text, by the same filters as Clips, or both, and steps you through them with the video.
- Press Ctrl+F (⌘F on a Mac), or click the magnifier above the log. The search bar opens above the log with the cursor in it. In the Video layout it opens over Checks, back on the log.
- Type text the codes contain, as they're written:
D=for dig errors,a12for away #12,*Tfor home timeouts. - To narrow it down, click Filter and pick a team, player, skill, set, rotation, phase or evaluations, as in Clips. Click Done to fold the filter away; Clear resets it but keeps your text.
What it searches:
- Text alone searches every code: touches, points, timeouts, substitutions, rotations.
- Any filter field limits it to touches.
- Codes with and without a video time are both found.
The matches are tinted in the log, and each rally head shows how many it holds. The bar counts them: "3 of 12" when the picked code is a match, "12" when it isn't, "None" when nothing matches.
Step through the matches:
| To go to | Press |
|---|---|
| The next match | Enter in the search box, the ↓ button, or Alt+Shift+] (⌥⇧]) |
| The previous match | Shift+Enter, the ↑ button, or Alt+Shift+[ (⌥⇧[) |
Each step picks the match, opens its set and rally, and moves the video to it. After the last match it goes round to the first. While the search is open, Alt+Shift+[ and ] step through matches instead of through every play.
Press Esc in the search box, or click ×, to close the search. The cursor goes back to the command line.
