The console layout
The console is the screen you code on. It has two layouts: Coding, with everything in view around a 16:9 video, and Video, where the video fills the window and the coding tools sit in one column beside it. Both have the same panels and the same keys.
Switch layout
Click Video or Coding at the right of the top bar, or press Alt+Shift+V (⌥⇧V on a Mac). Courtside remembers your choice on this computer.
The top bar
From left to right:
- Menu: back to the main menu (matches, teams, players, settings). The match is saved.
- The match: each team's side tag and name, the score, and a dot next to the score of the team that's serving. Then the set: "Set 3 · sets 1:1", or "Golden set · first to 15". Long team names shorten to fit.
- Video | Coding: the layout switch.
- Export: write the match as a
.dvw(see Exporting a .dvw). - Theme: light (sun), dark (moon), or follow the system.
- Boost: raises the contrast, over the light or the dark theme. Useful in a bright sports hall.
The theme and Boost are remembered on this computer.
Coding layout
| Where | Panel |
|---|---|
| Top left | The video, sized to 16:9. See Opening a video. |
| Under the video | The code log. See The code log. |
| Middle, top | The court for marking where a play went. See Marking where a play went. |
| Middle, below | The team panel: timeouts, substitutions, rotation and who's on court. See Substitutions, timeouts and rotation. |
| Right | Three tabs: Checks, This set and Clips. See Checks and Clips. |
| Bottom, full width | The command bar. See The command line. |
The This set tab shows each team's points, timeouts and substitutions in the set in progress.
Video layout
The video takes the right of the window. The column on the left holds, from the top:
- the code log,
- the team rows (timeouts, substitutions, rotation; the zones are left out to save room),
- the play court, drawn end on,
- the command bar.
The column grows with the window, from about 350 to 460 pixels wide.
Checks and Clips open in place of the code log, so the video doesn't move:
- Click the faults flag above the log ("2 faults · 5 follow"), or press Alt+C (⌥C), to open Checks.
- Click Clips above the log to open Clips.
- Click the back arrow (Back to the codes) to return to the log.
Typing a code brings the log back from Checks, so you see the code go in. Clips stays open while you type, so you can fix a clip's code without losing the list.
Short windows
In a window less than 760 pixels tall, the Video layout folds the play court to its header line. It opens by itself when you pick a code or a clip plays, or click Mark to open it.
Also in a short window, Starting lineup moves into the set tabs as a small Lineup button.
Narrow windows
In a window less than 1000 pixels wide, both layouts stack their panels in one column: video, command bar, code log, team panel, play court, Checks. The page scrolls.
Colours and marks
- Each team has its own colour (see Team colours).
- Checks use shapes as well as colours: an error is a filled octagon, a warning an outlined triangle, an info note a circled "i".
- The setter has a ring and an S badge, wherever a court is drawn.
