Starting lineups

Before a set's first serve, each team needs its starting six and its setter. Courtside uses them to follow the rotation, know who serves, and add the setter's set for you.

Enter the sixes for a set

The starting lineup screen opens by itself when a team needs its six: at the start of a match, and after each set ends. It shows both teams side by side.

For each team:

  1. Fill the six zones. Either:
    • click players on the team sheet under the court: each click fills the next empty zone, in the order 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6; click a player again to take them out, or
    • type the shirt number into each zone.
  2. Check the Setter line:
    • by role: if exactly one of the six has the Setter role on the roster, they're the setter.
    • Otherwise pick the setter's number from the list.
  3. Read the note next to the setter. It says ready when the six can go in.

When both teams are ready, click Start set 1 (or the set's number).

The zones are laid out as each team sees them facing the net: 4, 3, 2 at the net, 5, 6, 1 behind. The setter's zone gets a ring and an S badge.

Liberos are greyed out on the team sheet. They aren't part of the six.

Sixes from a scoresheet

If the match has its scoresheet attached, the lineup screen fills each team's six from it when the set starts: zone 1 is the sheet's position I, zone 2 is II, and so on. The Scoresheet line under the teams says "this set's sixes are filled in from it", and which team the sheet says serves first.

  1. Check each six against the sheet. You can change any zone.
  2. Check the Setter line. The sheet doesn't say who the setter is, so pick one if by role can't tell.
  3. Click Start set 1 (or the set's number).

A six you've already entered for a set always wins over the sheet's: the sheet only fills a team whose six isn't in yet.

The sheet's first server is shown, not used. Type the set's first server as usual.

A match gets its scoresheet when you start it from one. For any other match, attach it here:

  • Attach scoresheet… picks the PDF. The line says "None attached" until you do.
  • Check the match against it compares the coded match with the sheet. See Check the match against the scoresheet.
  • Replace attaches a different sheet; Remove takes it off.

Only eScoresheet's PDF can be read.

When the six won't go in

The note next to the setter says what's wrong, and Start set stays off until both teams are fixed:

NoteWhat to do
"3 zones empty"Fill every zone.
"a zone isn't a shirt number"Type a number from 0 to 99.
"a player is in two zones"Take the player out of one zone.
"#12 isn't on the team sheet"The player isn't on this match's roster. Click Edit team sheet, add them, and save.
"pick the setter"No single player has the Setter role. Pick the setter from the list.

If all six zones are full and you click another player, the screen says "All six zones are filled: clear one first."

If saving still fails, the reason shows at the bottom of the screen.

Add a missing player

A player who turned up late, or wears a different number today, isn't on the team sheet yet:

  1. Click Edit team sheet next to the team's name.
  2. Add the player, or fix their number.
  3. Click Save roster.

The change applies to this match only. See The match roster.

Edit a team's details

To fix a team's name, staff, kit or screen colour without leaving the match:

  1. Click Team details next to the team's name.
  2. Change what you need in the team editor (see Team details).
  3. Click Save team. Cancel closes it without saving.

The match reopens with your change, so a new name or screen colour shows at once.

Team details changes the team for the whole season, not just this match. Its roster is the team's season roster: to change who plays in this match only, use Edit team sheet.

The match's venue

The Venue line under the two teams shows where the match is played: a Hall and a City. A new match starts with the home team's home venue.

  1. Type the hall or the city.
  2. Click or tab out of the box. Courtside saves it and says "Saved."

The venue belongs to this match only. Changing it doesn't change the home team's home venue.

A match you coded here writes the venue into its .dvw export. A match you imported from a .dvw takes its venue from the file, and its export keeps the file's venue even if you change it here.

Change a set's lineup later

You can open any set's lineups, also once the match is over:

  1. In the code log, pick the set's tab (S1, S2…).
  2. Click Starting lineup · set 2 above the log. In a short window it's the Lineup button next to the set tabs.
  3. Change the zones or the setter.
  4. Click Save lineups. Back to the match leaves without saving.

You can also right-click a lineup row in the code log and choose Modify.

Courtside replays the rest of the set from the new six: the rotations it wrote itself follow the change. One undo takes the whole change back.
