Marking where a play went

The play court is a to-scale court where you draw where a serve, attack or other play went. A mark fills in the code's zones for you, so you can code the touch quickly and add the direction with the mouse, live or afterwards.

Mark a play

  1. Code the play, or pick it in the code log. The court's header says "Where it went:" and the code.
  2. On the court:
    • drag from where the play started to where it ended, or
    • click where it ended, when the code already has a start zone. Click a set or a block where it was.
  3. The play is drawn, and its code gets the zones.

If you pick nothing, the court marks the last serve, attack or free ball of the rally you're coding.

To mark one play after another, press Alt+Shift+[ (⌥⇧[ on a Mac) for the previous play and Alt+Shift+] (⌥⇧]) for the next. The log and the video follow.

What a mark writes

A mark writes the zones into the code, over any you typed:

PlayThe mark gives
Servethe serve zone (from the start of a drag), end zone and subzone
Receptionthe same as its serve
Attack, dig, free ballthe start zone (from a drag), end zone and subzone
Set, blockthe zone where it was

A serve's mark also goes on the reception straight after it, and an attack's on the dig straight after it, and the other way round.

A ball that lands out has no end zone.

Clear takes the mark off and puts back the zones the code had before you marked it. One undo takes back a mark and its zones.

If an attack's start zone doesn't match its combination's, Checks add a note.

Read the court

  • The picked play is drawn bold. The rally's other marked plays are drawn faintly behind it.
  • The end of each line shows how it ended: a dot for a # rating, a cross for an error (=), an arrowhead when the rally went on.
  • The court is turned like the zones in the team panel. Swap sides and side or end view turn it too. In the Video layout it's always drawn end on.

In the Video layout on a short window, the court folds to its header until you pick a play. Click Mark to open it.
