Setting up a match from FIVB VIS
For an FIVB competition, you can set the match up from VIS, the FIVB's online system for tournaments, matches and registered players. Pick the tournament and the match, and Courtside brings in both teams and their registered players instead of you typing them.
You need an internet connection. VIS needs no login.
Set up the match
- Open the season, and on the main menu open the Matches tab.
- Under New match, click From FIVB VIS….
- Find the tournament: type part of its name, its code or a year in the Tournament box. The box starts on the current year. While Courtside waits for VIS, the screen says "Asking VIS…".
- Click the tournament. Its matches are listed with the teams, date and time, venue and match number.
- Click the match.
- Review the teams (see below) and click Create match.
The match opens on the starting lineup screen.
To look in a different tournament, click Another tournament. Cancel goes back to the Matches tab without creating a match.
If VIS can't be reached, or answers with an error, the reason shows on the screen, under the note at the top.
The tournament list shows up to 60 tournaments, newest first. If yours isn't there, type more of its name. "No tournament matches" means nothing in VIS fits what you typed.
Review the teams
The review, New match from FIVB VIS, works like the one for a scoresheet: for each team, pick the season team it is or add it as a new team, and read what will be added. See Review what the sheet says.
VIS's team A is the home team.
The screen says how many registered players each team has with a shirt number, and that "The lineups are entered as each set starts."
What the match gets
- The teams. The season teams you picked, or new teams from VIS.
- The players. Registered players a team's roster doesn't have (by shirt number) are added to the team in the season. Each gets their name, shirt number, the libero and captain marks, height, weight, spike reach and date of birth, and their FIVB player number as their player code when no one else in the season already has it. Players already on the roster stay as they are.
- The date and venue from VIS.
- In the exported
.dvw: the start time, the tournament's name as the competition, and the match number.
What VIS doesn't give you
- The sets. VIS has no lineups, scores or substitutions for the match, so you enter each set's six on the lineup screen as usual, and there's nothing to check the match against.
- Staff. Coaches and other team staff aren't public in VIS. Add them in the team's details.
- Players without a shirt number. Only registered players with a number are brought in.
Once you have the match's official scoresheet, attach it on the lineup screen with Replace: its sixes then fill in each set, and you can check the coded match against it. See Attach a scoresheet to a match you already have.
What's sent to VIS
Courtside asks VIS only for its public lists: the tournaments, a tournament's matches, and a team's registered players. Nothing about you or your matches is sent.
Courtside doesn't send live data or results to VIS.
