Creating a match
You code a match from scratch by picking its two teams. Two other ways fill in more for you:
- From a scoresheet… takes the teams, players, venue and every set's six from the match's scoresheet PDF. See Starting a match from a scoresheet.
- From FIVB VIS… takes the teams and registered players of an FIVB match. See Setting up a match from FIVB VIS.
To work on a match someone else coded, import its .dvw instead (see Importing a .dvw).
Create a match
- On the main menu, open the Matches tab.
- Under New match, pick the Home team and the Away team. Each list shows the team's number of players in brackets.
- Check the Date. It starts on today.
- Check the Hall and City. They fill in from the home team's home venue when you pick the Home team. Change them if the match is played somewhere else.
- Click Start coding.
The match opens on the starting lineup screen, because both teams need their six before the first serve.
If the season has fewer than two teams, the tab says so instead of showing the form. Add teams on the Teams tab, or import a .dvw to take its teams.
The venue
Each match has its own venue, a hall and a city. A new match takes the home team's, and changing it for one match leaves the team as it was.
- If the home team has no home venue, the boxes stay empty. Type the venue, or leave it empty.
- Picking a different Home team fills the boxes again from that team, so pick the teams first and then change the venue.
- To change the venue after the match is created, use the Venue line on the starting lineup screen.
A match you code here writes its venue into its .dvw export.
Open a match
The Matches tab lists every match in the season: the teams, the date, where it came from (the imported file's name, or "coded here") and how many events it has. Click a match to open it where you left off.
The match roster
When you create a match, Courtside copies each team's roster into the match. From then on the match has its own roster:
- Editing the team later (a new player, a changed number) doesn't change this match.
- Editing this match's roster doesn't change the team.
This is what you want on match day: a late addition or a player wearing a different shirt is fixed for this match only.
Edit the match roster
- Open the starting lineup screen (Starting lineup above the code log).
- Click Edit team sheet next to the team's name.
- Change the roster: add a player, fix a shirt number, set a role. It works like the team roster (see Add players).
- Click Save roster.
The dialog says "Changes here apply to this match only, not to the team's season roster."
Imported matches have a match roster too. Your changes are written back into the file's player lists when you export.
