Seasons
A season is one file that holds everything for a stretch of competition: your teams and their players, every match you code or import, and the season's settings. You need a season open before you can do anything else.
Create a season
- Open Courtside. The start screen shows Open season and New season.
- Click New season.
- Pick a folder and a file name, for example
club-2026.courtside, and save.
The season takes its name from the file. It opens straight away, on the Matches tab.
Open a season
- On the start screen, click Open season.
- Pick the
.courtsidefile.
You can keep as many seasons as you like, one file each. Courtside works on one season at a time.
The main menu
With a season open, the start screen becomes the main menu. It has four tabs:
| Tab | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Matches | Start a new match, or open one from the list. See Creating a match. |
| Teams | Add and edit teams and their rosters, import and export team files. See Teams and players. |
| Players | Every player in the season, with search, and merging two records of the same person. |
| Settings | Typing defaults, rules, video, tables and keys. See Settings. |
The buttons above the tabs stay: Open season, New season and Import .dvw (see Importing a .dvw).
From a match, click Menu at the left of the top bar to come back here. The match is saved.
Saving
There's no Save button. Every change, from a team's new player to each code you type, is saved to the season file before the screen shows it.
If Courtside closes while you're coding, the next time you open it, it reopens the same season and match. See After a crash.
A season is a single file, so you back it up by copying it. Copy it while Courtside is closed.
