Team details
Besides its name and roster, a team can hold its staff, its home venue, its kit colours and a short code. Courtside puts these into your .dvw exports and team files, so the files you send look complete in DataVolley and VolleyStation. You only need the name and the roster to code a match: fill in the rest when you have it.
Open a team's details
From the main menu:
- Open the Teams tab.
- Click Edit on the team's row (or New team for a new one).
From a match, on the starting lineup screen:
- Click Team details next to the team's name.
Either way you get the team editor. Change what you need and click Save team. Nothing is saved until you do; Cancel throws the changes away.
Codes
| Box | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Code | The team's code in the season and in .dvw files. Leave it empty and Courtside makes one from the name (see Add a team). |
| Short code | Up to five characters, for .sq and .vst team files. Leave it empty and the files get the first five characters of the code. While the box is empty, it shows the first five characters of the code you typed. |
For example, a team named Harbour City VC with the code HCV and no short code is written to team files with the short code HCV.
Staff
The Staff section has a row for each role, with a Last name and a First name:
- Head coach
- Assistant coach
- Second assistant
- Physio
- Doctor
Fill in the people you know and leave the rest empty. The Teams tab's Coach column shows the head coach, first name first.
Not every file has room for everyone:
| File | Staff it holds |
|---|---|
.dvw | Head coach and assistant coach |
.sq | Head coach and assistant coach |
.vst | All five |
.dvw and .sq files write each person as one piece of text, last name first: Marsh Dana. When Courtside reads one of these files, it takes the first word as the last name and the rest as the first name. A two-word last name, such as Van Dijk, comes in split in the wrong place: open the team and move the words to the right boxes.
If you set up teams in an earlier version of Courtside, the coach and assistant you typed then are in the Last name boxes. Your exports come out as they did before. Split them into last and first names when you have a moment.
Home venue
Under Home venue, type the team's Hall and City, for example Quayside Arena and Port Elm.
When you create a match with this team at home, the match starts with this venue. You can change it for that match without changing the team (see Creating a match).
A .vst team file holds the hall, but not the city.
Kit
Under Kit, pick the team's Shirt and Libero shirt colours:
- Click the colour box next to Shirt and pick a colour. Until you do, it says Not set.
- Do the same for Libero shirt.
- To take a colour off, click Clear next to it.
The shirt colour goes into the .dvw of every match you code here, for DataVolley. The libero shirt colour is kept with the team in your season.
Screen colour
Screen colour is how Courtside draws the team on screen: its name, its half of the court and its codes in the log. It's separate from the kit, so a team in white shirts can still show in a colour you can read. See Team colours.
Player weight and reach
The roster has two more columns:
| Column | What it holds |
|---|---|
| kg | Weight in kilograms, 30 to 200. |
| Reach | Attack reach in centimetres, 150 to 450. |
Both are optional. .vst team files carry them; .sq files don't.

Changes and your matches
Each match keeps its own roster and its own venue, so editing the team doesn't move players in or out of a match you've already created.
For matches you coded in Courtside, the team's name, staff and shirt colour come from the team when you export. A change you make now shows up the next time you export any of those matches.
A match you imported from a .dvw keeps the teams' details from its file. Editing the team doesn't change that match's export.
When you save from Team details in a match, the match reopens with your change, so a new name or screen colour shows at once. The roster in that dialog is the team's season roster. To change who plays in this match only, use Edit team sheet instead (see The match roster).
