Coming from VolleyStation

If you scout with VolleyStation Pro, you can keep typing the way you do. Courtside reads VolleyStation's order of a code, fills in the rest the way you expect, and opens the .dvw files VolleyStation exports. This page lists what's the same, what's different, and where to look.

What's the same

  • Your typing order. Zones go before the evaluation, the extended part after it, with no ~: 9AQ35#, 8X5#T2, 8AT49=P2S. See Typing styles.
  • Calls and combinations in place of the skill. 4K1 is a set with call K1, 8X56# is an X5 attack into zone 6.
  • The setter's set with no player. K2# is the home setter's set, call K2, perfect; aK7 is the away setter's.
  • The set's target is filled in from the combination of the attack after it.
  • A bare number is an attack. After the other team's attack, a block or an overpass, a number is the counter-attack and no dig is written. Type D for a dig.
  • Dot codes fill the unrated half the way VolleyStation does: a - serve gives a + pass, a - attack a + dig. See Dot codes.
  • Team files. .vst and .sq, both ways. See Team files.

What's different

In Courtside
The serveA rally's first code is the serve: 7 is home #7's serve. Once the set's first point is played, Courtside knows who serves, so you can type + alone or start with the passer (7-). See The serve from the rotation.
The receptionA number straight after the other team's serve is the reception. To read it as an attack the way VolleyStation does, turn off Read a number after the other team's serve as the reception in Settings → Typing.
The setter's setAdded in front of an attack straight after the team's own pass, dig or free ball, unless the setter attacks, took the first ball, or you typed the set.
Points and rotationsWritten after each rally, and written again after every edit.
ChecksRun after every code. See Checks.
KeysCourtside's own, all changeable. To put symbols under your fingers, use Keys that type: ] types #, [ types +.
Match filesCourtside reads and writes .dvw. VolleyStation's .vsm files don't import into the app: export a .dvw from VolleyStation.
Statisticscourtside stats --symbols volleystation counts ratings as VolleyStation does by default.

You can also type DataVolley's columns with ~, in the same match. See Typing styles.

Your first session

  1. Create a season and import the teams from .vst files, or import a .dvw exported from VolleyStation.
  2. Set up Keys that type the way your fingers expect.
  3. Create a match and code a few rallies. Watch the read-back line to see what Courtside makes of each code before you press Enter.

  • Libero replacements.
  • Exporting clips as one video. Clips play in the app.
