Reporting a problem
When something goes wrong or doesn't do what you expected, Report a problem puts together what the Courtside team needs to look into it, and gets an email ready for you to send. Nothing leaves your computer until you send that email.
Make a report
- Open Report a problem:
- on the start screen, the Report a problem button next to Open season;
- in a match, the speech-bubble button in the top bar.
- Under What happened, and what did you expect?, describe it: what you typed or clicked, what you saw, what you expected instead.
- In a match, decide whether to tick Attach this match (.dvw) so we can see the codes. The match file has your players' names. Leave it out if you'd rather not send them.
- Click Make the report.
Courtside then:
- writes the report into a new folder in your Downloads folder, named like
Courtside report 2026-10-24 14.32; - opens that folder in Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows);
- opens your mail app with an email to the Courtside team, subject "Courtside problem report", with the report's summary in it.
The dialog says: "Your mail app should now have an email ready, and the report's folder is open beside it. Attach the files in the folder and send it." It also shows where the folder is. Click Done.
- Attach the files from the folder to the email, and send it.
If you don't send the email, nothing is sent. You can read every file before you send it.
What's in the report
| File | What it holds |
|---|---|
report.txt | The Courtside version, your system, the date and time (UTC), whether crash reports are on, and your note. With a match open: its set, score and number of codes, and how many issues Checks found by severity and rule. The last actions you took, by name (such as "commit" or "undo"), never the codes you typed. |
courtside.log | The last part of Courtside's log: what the app did and any errors. Your home folder's path is replaced by ~. |
match.dvw | The match, only if you ticked Attach this match. |
The summary in the email is the same text as report.txt.
Courtside's log
Courtside keeps a log of what it does and any errors it meets. On a Mac it's at:
~/Library/Logs/app.courtside.desktop/courtside.log
You don't need to find it yourself: Report a problem copies its last part into the report.
